The Maxx On DVD... Sort Of

For those of you that don't know about the 90's comic by Sam Kieth entitled The Maxx, I suggest you check out the Wikipedia article, followed by watching some of the animated MTV series. I recently came into some Maxx DVD's (and I'm not sure how much more I want to say, but, thanks to encoder smclean2000). So, feeling all creative, I decided to try my hand at a DVD cover for said DVD's. You can check out the preview below, and then tell me what's wrong (or maybe right) with it, and then even download it yourself.

Credits go out to smclean2000 for a great dvd set, angryblue.com for the blood splatter brushes, and chockingonstatic for the circle brush, and of course Sam Kieth

.

Update #1:
I think I've got it just about finished. I've moved some stuff around and cut out some of the text, but it hopefully flows a lot better now. I'll leave links to the old images here, for comparison (until I get off my butt and get an ajax image viewer going).

Update #2:
Some minor changes: removed the title from the back cover, faded the CHUNG lettering, and put the rest of the text back.

The Maxx DVD Cover

Old Covers
First Cover Second Cover

Download Covers:
Third (Newest) Iteration(7.2 MB)
Second Iteration (7.5 MB)
First Iteration(5.9 MB)

The text on the back reads:
Large, Violent, Purple and Yellow, The Maxx is here to protect and serve! Ever-vigilant and always ready to lend a claw, The Maxx sets out to destroy the evil sorcerer Mr. Gone and protect his Jungle Queen, Julie Winters!

See The Maxx in quite possibly the very best quality that you’ll ever experience, with all 14 uncut episodes spread out across two discs! So sit back, pop open some Pez, and get ready to see The Maxx kick some Isz butt!

I know it's sorta pathetic to comment to my own article first, but doesn't The Maxx look like he's threatening Julie? Like, "Get off the damn phone, woman!"

Thank you, I agree :D I've loved The Maxx since elementary school. I can't wait to get some ink for my printer so I can see how the cover looks IRL.

Is this 'DVD' still around??

d3vkit said on 12/31/2008

Through unnofficial channels it is (I think). MTV never released more than some VHS tapes of the show. I got my discs from demonoid; they are doing maintenence now so I can't see if they are still seeded.

Totally forgot about this cover. Still need to print this out.

Thanks, I found it on PB, love the cover by the way.

Cool, thanks :D I just remembered I need to fix Julie - she has some weird lighter-black outline (where I cut it out). Sometime this week I'll update the cover, and I'll post back to the comments.

I'm curious, how did you find this? I never update or promote this site anymore, and it doesn't seem to come up with a google search.

Google of course :) did a search for The Maxx DVD

Thanks for putting together a nice cover.
I just got a bootleg dvd of The Maxx at a comic book show for $5. And yours is a much nicer cover. I'll use it when I burn a couple friends copies of the dvd.

I found your post by google imaging: the Maxx

Cool, thanks for the comment. Really need to update this site since this page gets hits, heh. Also, need to make a disc cover, it's the only thing left to do and I think it would be easy.

Hah, also forgot to update Julie... dang it. Hope I remember after Thanksgiving!
