Meebo - Useful and Classy
I used to IM a lot more than I do now. Something about it became difficult as I grew up. I don't spend as much time at the computer. I have other things going on in life, and it's just hard to spend a few hours chatting with my friends. Well, and I guess I just haven't set up Pidgin to open when Windows loads, and I usually forget to open it.
I Talk Fast - Get Over It
At my really annoying new job, I work in a call-center and talk on the phone. My boss has told me to slow down when I speak - well, and so have a lot of people actually, all my life.
Why I Won't Be Upgrading to a Nintendo DSi
Well, I'm hoping I won't be upgrading, but knowing me I'll pick one up the week it's released in the US. But I do have my reservations about the upgrade, and for those that are interested, you can find out more after the break.
People Need To Understand Widescreen Better
This is a subject that has been near and dear to my heart for many a year: widescreen aspect ratios.
I was recently reading an 'article' at Toms Hardware titled "16:9 Screens Popular, But Movies Go Wider". This article, if one were to call it that, is chock full of grammatical errors, and, well, I can sum it up in one sentence: "Widescreen monitors (or tvs) are cheaper to produce, and thus cheaper to buy, but some movies are not the same aspect ratio as the standard widescreen monitor or tv."
Now, it is sorta neat to read about why they are cheaper to produce (manufacturer's being able to cut more panels from these 16:9 and 16:10 sizes than a standard 4:3 size), but the article really got me with this:
The trend is not changing again, and I'll tell you why, after the break.

However, the trend is changing again, as most movies coming out now are produced in even wider format than 16:9. So even now 16:9 displays are becoming an issue for most users who are into serious home theater setups.

How Vista Changed My Mind
Now I have for a long while been very against Windows Vista: it seemed like an unnecessary, fancy-looking power hog. I have used Windows XP for many a year, and although been frustrated with it at times, it always seemed to be fairly rock-solid. I had no desire to upgrade to an OS that seemed mostly bells & whistles.
And then I did. And I realized, it's not bad.

Witch Hunter Robin: A Review
I have always heard good things about Witch Hunter Robin. Reviews all say great things. And it seemed interesting: an anime about hunting witches? Sounds good. Alas, it is not good.
I'm at Least Less Cranky Than I Used to Be, Right?
So, a friend of mine recently told me that I am the crankiest person he knows. The CRANKIEST. That to me is like angry+old. When you don't have the energy to do stuff about the things you complain about, so you just complain louder. Definition from wiktionary:
Hmm. Well, I can see that I guess. But I haven't seen this friend in a long time, and I'd like to think I've become at least less cranky. I'm working on getting rid of the crank altogether. But I know that I can sometimes get easily upset, etc.
Moving on. Life has been really good lately. I just had my 90 day review and did pretty well; no major problems to speak of. I still love my job and my coworkers. I don't really like it when it's this slow at work, because then I do stuff like this blog and feel like I'm wasting time. But there's just not much to do right now.
I also finally officially moved to Chico. My g/f and friend all got a really sweet house. I'm having a blast setting up my room. But I need a tv stand, or to mount my tv on the wall...
I think I'll go bother phil. This is even boring.
Grouchy, irritable; easily upset; Full of spirit; crank; Addicted to crotchets and whims; unreasonable in opinions; crotchety

Happy Thanksgiving!
It's Wednesday night, Nov 26th, Thanksgiving Eve, and I'm very happy. I've not felt this happy in a long time. I have some serious issues with happiness; the moment you get it, it goes away. It's easier to be unhappy, or at best void of emotion. That sounds really bad and pathetic, but it's not all that bad; it's a way to be guarded for the worst. The worst will always come, it's just a question of when.
But today, today I am happy. I like my job. I like the house I'm moving into. It's Black Friday, the worst day of the year for me because I spend so much damn money on pointless crap, and I think I'll be buying one item (Simpsons Season 10, $15). There's a couple 1TB drives I want from Newegg, but I just don't have hundreds of dollars to drop. And, you know what, I'm okay with that.
This blog is pretty revealing, I know. Perhaps it's the music I'm listening to (Nico - Fairest of the Seasons - Royal Tennenbaums Soundtrack). But I am trying really hard to get across the point that I feel happy, content, and it's great. My plans for this weekend, this great, 4 day weekend:
-Buy The Simpsons Season 10
-Thanksgiving with family, packing for the move in December
-Get the network WORKING at home - and working well
-Perhaps work a bit on some web stuff.
I've got some people lined up for web design maybe (pretty big maybe). Last site I made, I did for a car stereo. I don't mind since it's good experience and I enjoy doing it, and heck, I've always wanted a nice car stereo. But I could use some real cash, so I'm hoping my web stuff comes through.
I think I'm going to eat, watch King of the Hill, and then fiddle with the router. Life is good, for four days. Hope it can hold out that long.

I Hate Everything About the Things That You Choose to Be: Addendum
So, it only took me maybe 1/2 an hour to get my site looking right in IE tonight (my site this time being this site right here). Had a problem with the top of the tag cloud, but, well, I've gotten better with design and css since I made that sucker. I had some crazy contraption of hidden spans and absolutely positioned divs that just made no sense. In less 13375p34k: the site was poorly coded, and now I know what I'm doing, and it works in IE and Fx. Joy to the freaking world.
Oh but I still hate IE.

Lesson N-Squared: Web Comics
Everyone knows what a comic is: from Batman and Superman paperbacks to a strip about Garfield and lasagna, everyone's read at least one. What some may not know about (usually non-nerds), is that the internet is a booming medium for comics and has been for some time. Check after the break for the low-down on the nets most popular comics and why you should be reading them.
