Wild Hogs: A Short Review

#Wild Hogs, #Movie Review, #Reviews, #Opinions, #Lame, #Unfunny, #Tim Allen, #William H. Macy, #John Travolta, #Martin Lawrence

Wild Hogs is, for some reason, the comedy hit of the summer - well, a third place hit, but top ten none-the-less. But I can tell you from first hand experience in a video store that it's a HIGHLY anticipated movie - I've had people asking for a release date for months now, and have heard many customers say they won't be renting Wild Hogs come this Tuesday - they'll be buying. And I simply couldn't get why until tonight when I sat down to watch it.

$3.99 Previewed DVD's at Blockbuster Video

#Blockbuster, #Previously Viewed DVD, #Cheap Movies

While Blockbuster has of late had quite a few cheap DVD sales (mostly bundles such as 4 for $20, but also some random $3.99 and $5.99 discs thrown in), they rarely really have anything I want. That all changed today.
While I don't have a complete list, here are a few titles that are worth looking out for. (Most of the ones I don't remember, I don't remember for a reason).

* Capote
*Jarhead (Single Disc - and was there some sort of transfer problem with Blockbuster copies of Jarhead?)
* United 93 (Single Disc)
* Thank You For Smoking
* Ultraviolet
* Brokeback Mountain

I'm only picking up Thank You For Smoking and United 93, and maybe Jarhead if there was really no transfer trouble as I seem to remember reading about (apparently, Blockbuster's widescreen discs were cut-off some or something, I think a 1.78:1 ratio instead of the larger, 2.35:1.)

If I see more worth posting I will, but in the meantime, any recommendations from the short list? What's good/bad/sucks? Anything you readers will be picking up?

WRV: Three For The Price of One

#The Simpsons, #Movie, #The Simpsons Movie, #Movie Trailers, #300, #Hot Fuzz, #Shaun of the Dead, #Burger King, #Whopper Junior, #Toys, #WRV, #Weakly Random Video, #Movie Tie-In

Alright so this weeks Weakly Random Video is going all over the place.
First, I just want to say I <3 Burger King, or as some refer to it, the BK Lounge. I have always loved Burger King; my usual meal is #2 at our restaurant and is the Double Whopper with cheese and a Sprite to drink (although I prefer Pepsi products over coke). I love the taste, the fries are some of my favorite (although Jack in the Box has some pretty good ones as well), and there are usually some awesome tie-ins to movies and stuff with toys. Well, this summer there is a tie-in with The Simpsons' Movie, with talking toys (15 in all!) at $1 each. I seriously do eat this up (pun intended).
Anyway, to tie-in with Burger Kings Tie-In, I'm posting the Simpsons' Movie Trailer (released today, Friday, July 27th) as this weeks WRV, along with some trailers for two movies out this Tuesday (July 31st), Hot Fuzz and 300. Enjoy after the break!

Some of My Favorite Films Not Often Seen

#Movies, #Film

I've worked in a video store for a few years, and have thus had the opportunity to see a lot of great movies. And yet, it always feels like a real chore to try to name off even a few. So when a co-worker of mine asked me to recommend some movies to her, I was initially at a loss.
I began to browse through the drama section, trying to jog my memory. The hardest part is that a lot of movies are so mainstream, I know most everyone has probably seen them, or I never watched them because they didn't pique my interest. But then I suddenly remembered the films and directors that make me love film. And in about five minutes, I had compiled a list of maybe 10 movies. So, after the break, here are a few of my favorite movies that I think might have been just below the radar for some people, and a few that have probably been seen by everyone, but perhaps not.

Happy Birthday To Me

#WRV, #July 12th, #Happy Birthday, #Birthday, #Paul Thomas Anderson, #PTA, #Movie, #Film, #Weakly Random Video

It's my 23rd B-Day today. Yay. Got a promotion at work as well. And here's a little trailer for "There Will Be Blood", PTA's newest work... very much looking forward to it. It's after the break. Oh and we'll just call this the WRV, since I haven't done that in like two weeks.

Remember when The Simpsons did that awesome house giveaway? Well this is even better.

In a larger-than-life promo for the Simpsons movie, a Kwik-E-Mart has been constructed in Burbank, CA, at the corner of Olive & Verdugo. It's stocked with Buzz Cola, Krusty O's, and plenty of Simpsons characters. Hit the source for the photo set at flickr.

Hollywood Video 4th of July Sale

#Hollywood Video, #DVD, #Sale, #Previously Viewed DVD

Hollywood Video is having a sale on previously viewed DVD's, until July 5th (Thursday). All Previewed DVD's are now as follows:
$14.99 & $12.99 = $7.99 (I think... other sources say 4/$30)
$9.99 = $4.99
$5.99 = $1.99!

I picked up, at $1.99 each:
Kiss Kiss/Bang Bang
Cache
A Mighty Wind
Six Feet Under Season 4 (Discs 1, 2, 3, and 5... no 4)

All for under $15. I've only seen A Mighty Wind, but figured I'd take a chance on the other stuff.

Don't forget that Blockbuster has a B2G2 free with some $5.99 movies which will net you some nice prices, but Hollywood is now a nice alternative till after the fourth :D

Blockbuster Video Sales

#Blockbuster Video, #Movies, #Pre-Viewed DVD's, #Sale, #B2G2

Blockbuster Video has started up some new sales this past Tuesday. Nothing amazing, but worth noting I suppose.
-B2G2 (Buy Two Get Two Free) on Pre-Viewed DVD's. This is all inclusive, unlike the 4 for $20 and 2 for $20, which had price ranges. With this new sale, you can find 4 $5.99 PVD's and get them for $11.98, or $2.99 a piece.

Also, Pre-Played Games $14.99 and below are B1G1. Probably excludes next-gen games, but most of those are at least $20 anyway.

Want Free Indie Music? Of Course You Do.

#Indie, #Music, #Epitonic.com, #Website Review

Okay, this review article has an ulterior motive: you see, a couple years back I stumbled upon (with no help from stumble upon, at that), a little website called epitonic.com - it was chock full of indie music, with many songs available to download, and tons of info about each band, intertwining each listing with related listings, as any good 2.0 site should. It helped me check out some new artists easily and not always have the same old things sitting around. And then I forgot about it.
A while back, I somehow found it again and also found that they had a new site design - one which is strange yet, very very cool. And I found that their little playlist music player was very good at doing that - playing music. It's attractive, cool, easy to use - and never misses a beat, such as when you click on the album art to check the band out further. And then, I forgot it again.
So today I was trying really hard to remember what the site was, and finally, luckily, found it. Epitonic is not exactly something that was easily searchable on google, since so many sites are 'indie-download.com' and 'indie-indie-bo-bindy.com'. Looking for new indie music from a particular site was a bit of a bother. But now that I've rediscovered it, I ain't losing it again - now it's BLOGGED, bitch.

Amazon DotD: $15 Wii Component Cables

#Amazon.com, #Deal of the Day, #DotD, #Wii, #Accessories, #Component Cables

Amazon's Deal of the Day has hit, and it's not too bad: Official Wii Component Cables for $14.99. Of course I've seen third party cables for as low as $8, but for official ones, this is a nice price. They list and are usually sold at $30. I'll be checking in with comments if the price changes.
