Alright so last week I sorta slacked off and never got around to posting the WRV, even though I had this waiting in the wings to be released upon you unsuspecting, confusingly-good readers.
If you've never seen the GI-JOE PSA redubbs that Fensler Films put together... well I guess you've come to the right place. Amazon.com has been having pretty decent "Deal of the Day" sales on video games lately, and today's deal is for a game IGN rated 5.5, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent for the Wii. Yeah, so it might not be the best game in the world, but $26.99 is nothing to sneeze at for a next-gen game. Well, 1/2 next-gen... whatever. When this site was originally conceived, it was a personal blog. But after conception, there was some minor surgery and what we have now was born: a site which tries to collect as many interesting and helpful things as it can for people to read about. One of the topics that I post about most is bargains on movies and game; I simply think I know bargains, and am amazed when I see people spend too much money (and not care, no less). I know a girl that saw Ice Age 2 for $16.99 and said it was a "good deal". I'm sorry, but that's a terrible deal.
So I thought now might be a good time to let you all in on the secret: I read a lot of forums and blogs. I know not everyone has the time for this, nor the want, so that's where I try to pick up the slack and collect all I can. But a lot of stuff falls through the cracks, or is simply too-short-lived to be posted, because by the time anyone read it, the deal would be dead. My recent post about a Babel BD comes to mind; I believe it was most likely dead when I wrote the article, but the disc was still $0 and still available for purchase. I guess I'll see later this week if it comes.
But for those of you with as much time as me, you might be interested in knowing where to find these deals. Click through the break to read alll about 'em.

I love Alien Hominid. It's a great, fast paced, action-y side-sscrolling shooter. One of those quirky pick-up-and-play titles. Originally a flash game at newgrounds.com, the plot outline of the game, of an alien being hunted by the FBI, is one as old as time itself (or perhaps 1982). Whatever the case, it's good, clean (and a little twisted) fun the whole family can enjoy this coming week on Xbox Live Arcade.

Just imagine "Thriller" in fast forward and in Indian, that's how scary Michael can be!
I always knew there was a reason why I hated Thriller growing up. Well, aside from the fact that I absolutely hate zombies and constantly obsess about attacks, but dancing alien vampire zombies? That's quite the package, raar.
Well, enjoy the video and remember, it's okay to laugh at them, it makes it less creepy ...damn zombies.

So, about a month late, I hear from a friend of mine that MS was thinking of installing a BD player in their Xbox 360 gaming console. I found this very interesting, since HD-DVD, last I heard, was being fully supported by Microsoft. So I did some legwork, and found out the story broke about a month ago, and that the story was a completely different one as well.
It seems Peter Moore had previously said this:

Microsoft would consider adding an external Blu-ray drive to the Xbox 360 in the future, should the right market conditions emerge. According to Peter Moore, corporate VP in charge of fun stuff at Microsoft, those conditions would be the emergence of Blu-ray as the clear winner in the next-generation optical disc format battles.

This seems pretty clear that what he was saying was that SHOULD HD-DVD not be the victor in this new-fangled format war, MS would consider BD. Which I'm sure would be at a point where HD-DVD was pretty much non-existent, which also seems to be not anytime soon at all.
Of course everyone the world over took this to mean MS had given up and that the 360 would have BD drives in them the following week. So MS issued this:

It is important to understand the context in which that statement was made. Microsoft firmly stands behind the HD-DVD format as the best choice for our consumers. As we've said before, we're confident that HD-DVD will bring the excitement of high definition movies to the consumer faster and at a greater value. We believe that consumers have signalled [sic] what format they want to enjoy high definition DVD and we're going to follow them down that path.

So, it seems to me that what MS said was pretty much a logical statement with no real bearing on the future, as we don't know where that will lead us. I for one would like to see BD and HD-DVD coexist (or both die off and a very superior format arise), but it seems as though the studios are really pushing for one or the other.
Anyone here have a preferred format? If you could design the next-gen media, what features would you include?
